Crazy for crayfish!

The third graders have been spending time with some new crustacean friends, as part of a Structures of Life Science Unit - setting up and maintaining crayfish habitats, feeding and observing crayfish behaviors, and learning the names and functions of various crayfish body parts. Did you know that crayfish eat hotdogs, potatoes, minnows, elodea, and cat food; crayfish live on every continent, except Africa and Antarctica; they spend their lives at the bottom of ponds or along the banks of streams; there are 200 species of crayfish in North America; and, crayfish reach their adult size when they are just three to four months old. We have enjoyed having them in class with us!
